Gordon Ramsay is quite outspoken when it comes to the dos and don’t of eating out. Just last month he basically put us off ever eating on a long-haul flight again after he said that he wouldn’t dream of touching food on a plane.

Which is why when the Kitchen Nightmares chef shared his three golden rules for eating in a restaurant with the Mail Online, we were all ears.
According to Ramsay, the one thing you should never order in a restaurant is anything off the specials board, if the list looks quite long. Which to be honest had us a little flummoxed until Gordon explained his reasoning…“Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening,” he said. “When they list 10 specials, that’s not special.”

The TV chef also warned diners to be wary of any ‘suspicious boasts’ such as ‘famous’, ‘best’ and ‘wicked’, saying ‘They start coming up with these terminologies, saying “and the wicked, famous, best in the country profiteroles.” Who said that? Who named that?’.
Gordon’s final words of wisdom included a hack to getting the best bottles of wine for your money – and all you have to do is ask the sommelier for the ‘bin end’ list (bottles with scratched labels or poor sellers).
‘We have a fear about talking to sommeliers because you think you’re going to be ripped off. So get the sommelier to come up with a great glass or great bottle and give him a price. And make sure it’s under $30 (£23.50).’
